Welcome!

I view therapy as one of the most courageous, brave and vulnerable actions you can take to experience the changes you are seeking in your life. Therapeutic Approach

Overview

The core of my approach to therapy is always using systemic thinking which means we will address the impact of the systems around you on your life. These systems impact our life experiences, as the systems can be sources of strength and resilience, and trauma and oppression. I care about the therapeutic relationship feeling safe, empowering and supportive to you. I strive to be client-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive and trauma-informed. We will work together to build our focus in sessions to best meet your goals. I value addressing the impact of generational trauma, systemic oppression and intersectionality on your daily experience. I view you as the expert in your life and seek to empower you to use the strengths and resources in and around you to help you experience the changes you are seeking.

Couples Therapy

When working with couples, I primarily utilize Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) methods. Additionally, I have completed Level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and am trained to administer the Gottman Connect assessment. I am a Bringing Baby Home Educator. I am also a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator. Click couples therapy to learn more about couples therapy.

Family Therapy

When working with families, I primarily utilize an experiential approach to therapy, meaning we work on experiencing the communication, emotions and changes you want to have in your relationships during our sessions. I also use components from Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). We then work on integrating these experiences into your daily life. Click family therapy to learn more about family therapy.

Individual Therapy

When working with individuals, we will focus our work together to clearly identify the goals and hopes you have for therapy. Depending on your goals and preferences, I may use a combination of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Family Systems, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy approaches and interventions. About Marissa

My pronouns are she/her/hers. I have lived in Denver for the past several years after moving from Seattle. My Great Bernese, pictured below, is often laying on my feet during video sessions and thinks she’s a lapdog when I’m not in session. I find rest and joy when I’m cooking, gardening and enjoying nature through hiking and camping with my husband and toddler. I am passionate about social justice, equity and finding old and new ways to be kind to the earth. I am an Enneagram 2 and Meyers-Briggs ENFP. I am a life-long learner and am so thankful to have found a vocation that is my passion!
