Family Therapy

Experience more satisfying and connected family relationships.

Your family of origin or chosen family culture can be a source of strength, resilience and love. It can also be a source of pain, conflict and disappointment. In family therapy, we will work together to build a safe space to communicate your hopes for your relationships. I will guide your conversations as a neutral third party to help you communicate your thoughts and feelings openly to each other. Although your family may benefit from therapy at many points in your journey, here are some times when it can be particularly beneficial.

  • Families welcoming new children

  • Families with adult children

  • Families adjusting to grief and loss

  • Families wanting stronger relationships

Families welcoming new children

If you are preparing to or have recently welcomed a child into your home through birth, adoption or otherwise, I can help you process this transition openly and honestly. We will discuss the impact of this change on your relationships, emotional and mental health, self care patterns and self esteem. We will identify core family values and strengths of your family culture that will support your adjustment to your new normal.

Families with adult children

If you are preparing for your children to leave your home or if they have recently left and you are adjusting to your “empty nest”, I can support you in this process. We will discuss how this change is impacting your identity, relationships, communication patterns, career and financial goals and hopes for your future. We will identify communication skills to help these changes be as mutually beneficial as possible. I will support all parties in communicating their hopes and expectations for this new season.

Families adjusting to grief and loss

If your family is adjusting to the loss of a loved one, I can help you navigate your individual and shared path of grief. I can help you communicate your emotions and plan for grief rituals that are meaningful to you. Grief can be a lonely season and family therapy can help you feel less alone during this time.

Families wanting stronger relationships

If you are looking to improve your relationship with a certain family member, most commonly a parent, sibling or child, I can help you openly communicate your thoughts, feelings, boundaries and hopes to help you feel more mutually satisfied and connected together. I commonly work with pairs of adults or teens and adults.
